The Six Most Highly Anticipated Movies Coming Out in the Second Half of 2022

We've rounded up the most anticipated films for the rest of 2022, including "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" and "Avatar: The Way of Water."

As we move into the second half of 2022, plenty of films will hit the big screen, with even more arriving in 2023. For now, however, we've rounded up the biggest of the lot in the following list, including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Avatar: The Way of Water. For those who enjoy horror, we have also included the most anticipated horror movies of 2022.

The Woman King (Sony Pictures)

Gina Prince-Bythewood's upcoming release is an epic work about American history. The story is based on the true story of the Dahomey Amazons, an all-female military regiment based in the Kingdom of Dahomey. In September 2022, the movie will have one of the biggest premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival. It is scheduled for release by Sony Pictures Releasing on September 16, 2022. Featuring Viola Davis, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Thuso Mbedu, Sheila Atim, Lashana Lynch, and John Boyega, this movie is sure to be a success.

Halloween Ends (Universal Pictures)

Release Date: October 14, 2022

Genre(s): Thriller, Horror

James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle will both don "The Shape" mask in the franchise's closing moments. In addition to Kyle Richards's role as Lindsey Wallace, Will Patton's Deputy Frank Hawkins, and Omar Dorsey's Sheriff Barker, we can expect to see a talented ensemble rounding out the cast, including Karen Strode's daughter, Judy Greer. Michael O'Leary will take on the role of Dr. Mathis as a new face in the franchise.

As Halloween Ends slashes into theaters on October 14, lock your doors, leave your lights on, and prepare for blood to spill and horror to ring out.

Black Adam is Dwayne Johnson's first superhero role, an antihero with powers comparable to those of Superman. DC Comics' dark and violent film also introduces the Justice Society of America and its members, such as Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Doctor Light (Pierce Brosnan), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell).

Amsterdam (20th Century Studios)

One of the season's most intense movies, Amsterdam reunites Christian Bale and director David O. Russell. This story set in the 1930s follows three friends who witness a murder, become suspects themselves, and unravel a criminal plot unlike anything seen before. This 20th Century Studios film also stars John David Washington, Rami Malek, Zoe Saldana, Robert De Niro, Mike Myers, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Taylor Swift, and many others. Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki lenses the film, his first feature since Terrence Malick's 2017 Song to Song.

Almost two years after Chadwick Boseman's tragic death, Ryan Coogler will once again helm the sequel to Black Panther. A number of original cast members will return, including Lupita Nyong'o, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, and Winston Duke, as well as Michaela Coel and Dominique Thorne as Ironheart's young companions.

Avatar 2 (20th Century Studios)

Everyone has been eagerly awaiting Avatar 2, also known as Avatar: The Way of Water. As the second entry in Cameron's franchise, thirteen years after the first, this science-fiction film will be directed by none other than James Cameron. We'll see the old cast members alongside new cast members such as Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel, Cliff Curtis, Jemaine Clement, Edie Falco, and Michelle Yeoh, as well as Joel Moore, CCH Pounder Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Lang, and Matt Gerald. The film will also feature Sigourney Weaver in a different role. Avatar 3 is expected to be released in 2024, Avatar 4 in 2026, and Avatar 5 in 2028. Despite repeated delays, the film is finally scheduled for release on December 16, 2022.
